Fractured Reality Studios was an indie VR studio founded in Pennsylvania in late 2016 by a local VR enthusiast. Its main goal was to create a phase based RPG with a horror story within VR. My official title was Creative Director, and as such I directed the vision for story, art, and design through out the team of about seven. I pitched stories, wrote scripts, created level designs, wrote environment descriptions, mediated creative decisions, oversaw, edited, and wrote much of the GDD, and more.
In addition to my writing and creative direction duties, I was head of production for the studio. We used a combination of Trello, Screenful, Perforce, and Slack for most things. I scheduled meetings, standups, oversaw the burndown chart, taught the founder how to do production basics/Kanban, and overall tried to organize the constantly changing structure of a studio gaining its legs.
In addition to working on its more ambitious project (which never saw the light of day), we also ran a game jam that eventually produced Project Paper, which is shown in the video above. It’s a crafting VR game using locomotion and teleportation. I created a script and even got as far as directing voice recording, though it never got implemented. Art/environment design is by Mike Volpa, and code is by Devlin Willis.
